THE HEALD FAMILY STORY

Five Generations of the Heald Family

The Heald family's mechanical trade legacy spans five generations, with California roots dating to 1910 and service in the Sacramento region beginning in 1970. In 1995, Greg Heald established Heald Mechanical as the family's HVAC division, continuing a tradition built on skilled work, personal service, and straightforward recommendations.

MORE THAN A CENTURY OF FAMILY HISTORY

A Mechanical Trade Passed From One Generation to the Next

The Heald family's story in the building and mechanical trades began generations before Heald Mechanical itself was established. From early roots in New England to mechanical contracting in the western United States, each generation carried forward practical knowledge, skilled workmanship, and a family connection to the trades.

In 1910, Samuel Heald moved with his wife and sons to San Francisco, beginning the family's documented California mechanical trade legacy. Decades later, that tradition reached Northern California and the Sacramento region—eventually leading to the establishment of Heald Mechanical as the family's HVAC division in 1995.

THE HEALD FAMILY THROUGH THE GENERATIONS

From Family Trade Roots to Heald Mechanical

The Heald family’s history in the building and mechanical trades developed over several generations and across both coasts. The family’s documented California legacy began in 1910, Sacramento-area service began in 1970, and Heald Mechanical was established as the family’s HVAC division in 1995.

Early 1800s

Family Trade Roots in New England

The Heald family’s early history in the building and mechanical trades began in New England, including Massachusetts and Maine. These roots established a family connection to skilled trade work that would continue across generations.

The Heald Family Moves West

Samuel and Thomas Heald left New England and moved to Seattle, Washington, where they continued working in plumbing, sanitation, and mechanical contracting.

1920

A Family Mechanical Business Takes Shape

Today

Five Generations Continue the Tradition

Heald Mechanical continues the Heald family tradition through HVAC, furnace, heating, air duct, and water heater services. The company’s approach remains centered on clear explanations, honest recommendations, time-and-material pricing, and hourly technicians who are not paid by commission.

A long family history matters most when its values still shape how customers are treated today.

A LEGACY THAT STILL SHAPES THE WORK

What Five Generations Mean for Customers Today

A long family history matters most when it continues to influence how customers are treated. At Heald Mechanical, five generations of mechanical trade experience have helped shape an approach centered on clear explanations, honest recommendations, skilled work, and respect for the customer's home and decisions.

Understand the Problem Before Recommending the Solution

HVAC problems are rarely one-size-fits-all. Heald Mechanical focuses on identifying the issue, explaining what is happening in understandable terms, and helping customers consider the appropriate next step—whether that means a practical repair or, when appropriate, replacement.

Repair When Practical. Replace When Appropriate.

An aging or malfunctioning system does not automatically need to be replaced. The goal is to evaluate the condition of the equipment and provide an honest recommendation based on the actual situation rather than creating unnecessary pressure to purchase new equipment.

Build Relationships, Not One-Time Transactions

The Heald family has served the Sacramento region since 1970. That kind of local longevity is built through relationships, personalized service, and treating each customer interaction as more than just another service call.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO HVAC SERVICE

Honest Pricing Without the Sales Pressure

Some HVAC pricing models package repairs into predetermined flat-rate prices, which can make it difficult for customers to understand how the final price relates to the actual work performed. Heald Mechanical takes a different approach.

With time-and-material pricing, customers pay based on the actual time and materials used for the job. And because Heald Mechanical technicians are paid hourly rather than by commission, their compensation is not tied to selling additional repairs or replacement equipment.

HOW THE PRICING WORKS

TIME + MATERIALS

Actual time spent
Pricing is based on the actual time required to perform the service rather than assigning a separate predetermined price to every task.

Materials actually used
The materials needed for the job are part of the actual service performed.

Straightforward explanations
Customers can understand what was found and what is being recommended.

No commission-based technician pay
Technicians are compensated hourly rather than earning commission from additional sales.

Less pressure to replace equipment unnecessarily
The service approach is not built around rewarding technicians for selling a new system.

Repair when practical. Replace when appropriate.
Recommendations can focus on the actual condition of the equipment and the customer's situation.
